The profession of 工业与系统工程 is about choices. Students in the ISE学士课程 take a variety of courses to prepare for their career. They include:

  • General education courses such as writing, formal reasoning and global perspectives.
  • 数学和科学课程，微积分和物理.
  • Engineering core courses such as Introduction to 工业与系统工程, CAD和计算机问题解决能力.
  • ISE仿真专业课程, 人体工程学和人为因素, quality control, operations research, PLM, lean, Industry 4.0, data analytics, ERP, robotics, production systems and leadership.
  • A team-based senior design experience that is conducted at a local company.  Companies that hosted senior design projects include General Motors, 菲亚特克莱斯勒汽车公司, Rayconnect, Brose, JR Automation, 麦克拉伦奥克兰医院, Comerica Bank, Mirari, DTE Energy, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital and Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital.

工业和系统工程师专注于 从系统级的角度解决问题, which includes people, machines, materials, energy, technology, information and software. Industrial and Systems Engineers must design solutions that consider all of a system’s components so that everything works together to improve overall system performance.

As companies adopt management philosophies of continuous productivity and quality improvement to survive in the increasingly competitive world market, the need for Industrial and Systems Engineers is growing. Why? Industrial and Systems Engineers are the only engineering professionals who are trained as productivity and quality improvement specialists. They are leaders in six sigma and lean systems initiatives. The Industrial and Systems Engineer is synonymous with systems integrator – a big-picture thinker who takes what exists today and conceptualizes what should exist in the future.

A lot of engineers become disillusioned with the engineering profession because they get involved in minutiae or they end up on a CAD machine all the time and they never get out in the operating environment. ISE provides an opportunity for a challenging career working with people where you can have a direct impact on the success of an organization.

The ISE B.S.E. 教育目标 are a set of skills that are necessary to function successfully in modern engineering practice. It is expected that ISE graduates have been prepared in each of these areas and will exhibit each of these characteristics as they pursue their professional careers:

  2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, 经济因素.

  4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, 以及社会背景.
